Visakhapatnam: Investors in the YSR Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) being developed at Kopparthy in Kadapa district of Andhra Pradesh will be getting financial assistance under the EMC2.0 Scheme launched last year by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
Software Technology Parks of India (STPI), which comes under MeitY with the mandate to promote exports, in a recent tweet stated that Dixon Technologies (India) Ltd, an anchor unit at YSR EMC in Kadapa, plans an investment of Rs 300 crore under the EMC2.0 Scheme.
When contacted, STPI-Andhra Pradesh Joint Director MP Dubey told Bizz Buzz that this would be the first cluster in the State to get aid under EMC2.0 Scheme. He said efforts are on to bring more EMCs under the scheme.
The Kadapa EMC, coming up in the native district of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is being given top priority to attract investments in electronic appliances, laptops, tablets, security cameras and mobile phones. AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC), the nodal agency for development of basic infrastructure like connectivity, power supply and internet at the EMC, is developing the cluster in an area of 540 acres.
The State Government was sanctioned in-principle, financial support for viability gap funding by the Centre within four months of receiving the proposal. The Centre has promised Rs 350 crore. The State is spending about Rs 748 crore on creating basic infrastructure. Sources said several investors are in touch with the government to set up units in the EMC. During their visit to Vijayawada and after talks with the Chief Minister and Industries Minister Mekapati Goutham Reddy in March, Dixon Technologies (India) Chairman Sunil Vachani and COO Pankaj Sharma said their Kadapa facility would generate jobs for 3,000. They were quoted as saying that they have plans to expand their facility at Tirupati to create jobs for another 1,000. Under the EMC2.0 scheme MeitY provides financial assistance. The scheme was launched to offset the bottlenecks encountered by the entrepreneurs for quality infrastructure and to develop a robust electronics manufacturing ecosystem in the country to make India an electronics manufacturing hub. Modified electronic manufacturing clusters come under EMC 2.0 Scheme as declared on gazette notification issued on April 1, 2020.
It gives support for creating world-class infrastructure along with common facilities and amenities, including ready-built factory stands, plug and play facilities to attract major global electronic manufacturers along with their supply chain to set up units in the country. The scheme will fortify the linkage between domestic and international market by strengthening supply chain responsiveness, consolidation of suppliers, decreased time-to-market and lower logistics. EMC2.0 Scheme empowers ESDM manufacturers to leverage the ready-built factory with the required ecosystem for promoting MSME entrepreneurs. Besides common areas, open plots will be either sold or given on lease.
